    Unhappy Sad

    I have pretty bad social phobia and idk what to do about it

    Hi alisha i also have a social phobia too. I couldnt even leave the house without vomiting and having a severe panic attack. All i do is stand still or sit down and breath not deep breathing but just slowing it down and having ice water it really does help. Ive overcome going out now because i am on xanax but as of late it has stopped working ( i think) because my panic is slowly returning

    Pretty much the same here Alisha,had it for about 16-17 years now,since i was 19-20,Ive tried medication(seroxat,and some others)seen numerous therapists and tbh none of it has ever helped me,since stopping the tablets myself a few years back i didnt feel any different coming off them than i did on them.

    Im not housbound luckily,but rarely socialise and if i do i have to have a drink before i can meet up with anyone as i find it the only way to feel comfortable,problem with that is,if i have to much then the anxiety is so bad the next day that i really cant leave the house.

    Also it just makes you wonder if you will ever meet anyone,as pretty much you need to do soemthiogn social to meet partner,its easy enough with a few drinks but then i wouldnt be able to meet up with them in a nornal situation.

    One thing i am lucky with is i work nights,so only work with 1 other person which is ideal for me,as if i spend alot of time with someone i do eventually become comfortable and dont have anxiety(for the most part)with that person then,but i always make excuses for the christmas party or just book the bok the few days before it and thast day off,as it just gets to much for me sitting around eating with 10-20 ppl,im just not sure what to try anymore,as far as i can see ive tried everything that has ever been advised to me from my doctor but nothing ever works.

    Maybe meds would work for you,ot therapy...it does for alot of ppl,maybe i just think nothing will ever work so it never does,im not sure.

    I hope things improve for you as i know its just horrible feeling this way.

    keep your head up... cognitive-behavioral therapy has been shown to work well for social anxiety in most scientific studies so I recommend going about treatment that way.
