    Looking for a friend...

Hi my name is Chrissy and I've had agoraphobia for 30 years now. I'm 46 and have had agoraphobia in one form or another since I was 15.

I live in a bubble. If you don't have to ask "what do you mean"? then I sure am in the right spot.

I am looking for someone who wants to talk daily about our lives, accomplishments and try to help eachother with our suggestions.

    Thanks

    Hi Chrissy!
I'm 22 and have had very bad agoraphobia for the past 5-6 years. Not fun!
Definitely don't have to ask what you mean!

    Hello Chrissy!

Welcome to Phobics Awareness! You came to the perfect place! We will help you get out of your bubble . I'm a recovering agoraphobe and I know you can get out there.. don't stop trying! That goes for you as well duckduckduke! I stayed inside my house for 5 years combined, and during that time, I never envisioned a way out of my situation ever. Thanks to a lot of time, trying, and healthy coping mechanisms, I've been able to go out the most this year on my own since my illness has started.

Glad to have you here, and can't wait to see your posts and responses on the forums. Take care!

    Hi Chrissy,
I am 64 and had a lot of mental illness in the past. I have found unwavering solutions to many issues that have helped me back to mental health now 25 years. I am here at this site in hopes that I can be of some help to those still struggling and believe me I know it is a terrible struggle and few have any answers. I had to look up agoraphobia to find out what it means, lol. Well if you mean you panic in public places I had that really really bad. I'll give you a little suggestion if you please. This is what I learned to do. I would lie in bed when I knew the phone would not ring or anyone disturb me and imagine myself in a public place. I worked at provoking these panics in the safety of my room not just once but many times. You know it helped a lot. As time went on I became more and more familiar with these panic feelings and they didn't scare me as badly.

gotoverit, that's a really great way to practise exposure therapy without having to go outside! Brilliant! duckduckduke, you are amazing. Wonderful to hear how you are still trying.

    Hi,

I, too, just found this website today. Was curious on what others had to say, and then I saw your post. I'm 37 years old and, lately, almost completely home-bound. My panic attacks make it hard for me to, sometimes, even go to our neighboring supermarket. I have no one who completely understands; most of folks believe I just want to get attention or cause certain drama. Oh, if they would only know....
I even had to quit my job and start to work from home (which is not impossible and a huge relief for me).

Anyways, I have been looking for ages to find someone to talk to on a regular basis, to find support and to give as much as possible in return.

It would be nice to be in touch with you, and if you feel like it, then please contact me anytime.

Meanwhile, I wish you all the best, and always remember that you are not battling "it" alone.

    Love,
    Alexandra

Thank you all for your replys. This is truly the place for me. It's wonderful to have people who "get me" instead of all the people, ok, a few who try.

    Paperhearts,

Welcome to the Phobics Awareness community. I'm sorry to hear that you are homebound now, and how you have quit your job over it. It's very depressing when our lives tighten up so small that you feel like you are in a fenceless prison. You WILL get through this. This doesn't happen to us for no reason. Getting to the bottom of it is hard work, but it's worth the effort... it makes you a better person, as you unlock the key to who you are inside. I'm so glad you found us! I think you will find us a comforting asset to your recovery.

    Take care of yourself!
