In PTSD recovery it helps to have philosophies to keep you centered and grounded. I like this one by Albert Einstein:

Learn from yesterday. Live for today. Hope for tomorrow.

It's simple but it gives a plan to focus your perspective every day.

You have enormous healing potential. The goal is learning to access it.

Dig deep. You can do this. I believe in you!

With PTSD emotions can roll like waves - tidal waves! It makes it easier to manage them if you don't fight them but roll with them.

    Jon Kabat-Zin said,

You can't stop the waves but you can learn to surf.

The next time you feel a wave of great emotion, instead of fighting or fearing it, jump on and ride it. Let it flow and you just go with it. Trust yourself: You're strong enough to surf. All waves crest and then roll up on a stable, sandy shore.

You have enormous healing potential. The goal is learning to access it.

Dig deep. You can do this. I believe in you!

It's not like there's just one thing that you can do and PTSD will go away. There are many things you must do in order to reach the end.

One simple thing you might start incorporating in your world is the quest for a little happiness. It doesn't have to be a lot, just a little snippet of joy each day or each week can help shift your mood and give you more strength to do what needs to be done.

    Desiderius Erasmus said,

Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself.

Well, some of the darkness, anyway. A little more light means a little less darkness. Wouldn't that be nice?

I'm always saying that I believe in you. Do you wonder why? It's because I believe every single one of us has strength, resilience and courage from the day we are born. The trick is just learning how to access and use it when we feel none of those things.

    Roger Dawson said,

Within each of us is a hidden store of energy. Energy we can release to compete in the marathon of life. Within each of us is a hidden store of courage, courage to give us the strength to face any challenge. Within each of us is a hidden store of determination. Determination to keep us in the race when all seems lost.

You see, there are other people who believe the same thing, too. Isn't it time you really began believing it more deeply, too?

You have enormous healing potential. The goal is learning to access it.

When you read a book, you get to a page where the chapter ends. You turn the page and then all of that part of the story is enclosed in its own space.

You might decide to do the same: close the chapter on the past and open a new chapter in your life.

    Rainer Maria Rilke said,

We see the brightness of a new page where everything yet can happen.

The rest of your life can happen - and it will. Keep reading. Keep writing. Keep creating the person you wish to be.

You have enormous healing potential. The goal is learning to access it.

Healing PTSD can be frightening: you're being asked to give up everything about what you feel and think keeps you safe and keeps you connected to who you are.

But what if you'd be safer and more self-connected if you were to let go of what keeps you bound to your trauma?

    Plato said,

We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.

Are you afraid to overcome PTSD? It makes total sense that you might be. If that's the case, first deal with your fears in this area before you try to work on the PTSD itself. One thing at a time. And always: move toward the light.

If you're just sitting around waiting for the day you will be released from PTSD - as if you have no part in this outcome - it's time to get off your duff and engage!

    Pamela Vaull Starr said,

Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal.

What can you do today to reach more than you have been? What one action can you take to begin putting in place things you need to make the dream come true?

I'm going to just tell you like it is: In PTSD recovery you must put yourself first. I know that might sound bad, especially if you have a family and friends who want and need you. But the simple fact is you can't be the best family member or friend you can be if you aren't well. You must put yourself first if you are going to get better.

    Cindy L. Teachey said,

There is a delicate balance of putting yourself last and not being a doormat and thinking of yourself first and not coming off as selfish, arrogant or bossy. We spend the majority of our lives attempting to perfect this balance.

After you recover you can spend the rest of your life trying to perfect that balance. Right now, be selfish. Please.

Hello friends! I'm back from vacation and will be again be posting Michele's thoughts of the day.

The idea that you create your reality has been around for a really, really long time. For example, William Shakespeare wrote,

It is neither good nor bad, but thinking makes it so.

Which makes me think you've got to admit there must be something to that idea, I mean, since you find it repeated so often.

How would your world change if you shifted your perception about things in it?
