New here - worried that I am developing agorophobia

    Hi All,
I am worried that I am becoming agorophobic. Does it come on gradually? THis is new to me. I am looking for advice from someone who has been there.
I have already been diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorders. Now I am starting to feel uneasy whenever I am away from my home. The further I go the more I want to be back home. Is this how it starts, or am I feeling something else.
    Thanks Ozzy

I'm pretty sure you're suffering from social anxiety or social phobia.
The symptoms are similar, but agoraphobia doesn't usually come with depression.

Social anxiety is more of a confusion in crowded places like an airport or a nervousness in unfamiliar surroundings like a public library.
Even going to the theater might be hard without someone you know there.

Agoraphobia (at least for me) comes from a type of dependency or inability to function in society "normally".
This may stem from a schooling problem, coming from facts that would be used in everyday life such as banking, driving, working, etc.

    The two disorders can overlap.

    Hello Ozzy,

Welcome to our forum support and chat site! If you are already experiencing anxiety and depression, I think agoraphobia is a natural progression, but it's not a professional opinion! It can vary from person to person as to it's onset and severity, but you sound like you are starting to go down that route. If you can, fight, fight, fight it. It will just be another thing that you have to get over, and breaking that boundary of agoraphobia once it's set in, is really hard to do!

I hope you have work or something regular that takes you out of your house! Let us know how you are doing! Take care!

Sorry Depressed but i had depression with my agoraphobia. Being agoraphobic can cause depression ecspecially when you don't know you have it. ColourGirl i'm agoraphobic and that is exactly how it started for me, i didn't want to leave the house as often and the more and further i left home the more i just wanted to be back home and i have been to the point where i couldn't leave the house for 3 months, not even onto our front varandah. Speak to a psychologist and they will help you before it does progress
