Hi my names Lucy and im 21 soon, im trying to find somebody to relate to, who understands how social anxiety affects your life and how it makes you feel. Recently iv started to feel alot more alone and detatched from the world even though i have a supportive family, and friends who are there its way to difficuit to see them. Im not able to live a normal life and it really gets me down. I just want to talk to somebody who knows how it feels, and not feel quite as alone.

Lucy,

i'm familiar with some information on social anxiety as I now think that is my biggest problem. it's had huge affects on my life and i only realized this this last couple of years. you can get a workbook on social anxiety that explains what it is, how it starts, and what activities you can work on to overcome it. i've been looking for opportunities to socialize and converse to work on my anxiety and that makes me feel hopeful. i joined toastmasters for 3 years but then decided i was over my head and found a support group instead. a good website to find a support group is Meetup.com. i'd love to talk to you more about it.

Hello vena,

Welcome to our PA forum and chat site! I apologize I have not welcomed you sooner, I've been having pc issues lately. You are not alone in your suffering.. social anxiety is a very real and serious disorder because our need to socialize is built into us, we need human interaction, just as much as we need food or water. You deprive a baby of love, and the baby will often suffer from "failure to thrive" which can even result in death! I'm glad that you have joined us, and I hope that when you start to feel more at ease, you will come join us in chat. We are a wonderful group of people to be around, and just seeing others who feel the same as you do, can be very validating, and beneficial.

Take care vena, and be gentle with yourself!
