I have an irrational fear of storms. But the only time i'm afraid of storms is when they're windy, at all. And I love wind, on a nice, clear day when I can just take a break from schoolwork and breathe. But if there's a group of trees against an even slightly gray sky, and I see them moving, boom! 20 out of the 23 symptoms set in, and if there's a storm coming, they just get worse and worse. The other night I had all the 20 symptoms and didn't sleep a wink, because it was windy and it rained on and off, so I could hear the rain pelting against the window. It wasn't even stormy, at all. But now there's a huge system coming in tonight, and the wind's going to be about 15 mph for this whole day and all of tonight, and it'll be rainy and around 3 am tbe actual storm will get here. (why do these things always happen at night?? why can't we have storms while i'm not trying to sleep?) Anyhow, I'm dreading it, and while I'm trying to convince myself that I'm fine and I'm not scared, my body tells me otherwise, especially--forgive me--my bowels. Ugh! Anybody else have the wind/storm problem

Dear Fullbloom :)
Welcome to the forum! There are others who from time to time have posted on the forum about problems they have with storm phobia. I do hope you hear from them. I don't have a problem with this. My problem is generalised anxiety disorder.
Have you tried to get professional help for your storm phobia? I know that a really specific phobia like your one is highly treatable but you'd need assistance to get a grip on it. Have you thought about seeing a psychologist who specialises in treating phobias? That's what I'd do anyway.
I wish you all the best and thanks for posting and introducing yourself

Hi,
I too have a fear of the wind. You are definately not alone on this one.
Mine goes back to childhood. I'm 46 now but have learned to some degree some coping skills. i used to have to see the weather forcasts and hide in my cellar until the worst of it had passed. like you, i work out how bad it is by looking at the trees and rubbish blowing around in the street. my worst vision or fear is of slamming doors and windows in the wind. The noise of that just finishes me. i lie awake listening to the wind, but also trying to block my ears from it. Getting on a bus in the wind is an absolute no - no for me too. I think we perceive that storms are worse at night because all your attention is on it.
I am now seeking professional help with this fear. There was a time when it didn't bother me at all, so I really believe its possible to be that way again.
You have all my sympathy on this one. ... and i do hope you can seek help.
love
