Dear Northerngirl :)

Welcome! Sorry to hear that you're having a difficult patch with the emetophobia. It's not a problem that I have but I know a few people who use this site have the same problem.

Have you gone to your doctor to have a chat with them about the problem? I think it would be worthwhile doing this. Your doctor might refer you on to someone else like a counsellor for treatment of the condition.

Anyway, I hope you get over your bad patch soon.

Wising you all the best

Hi Northerngirl,

I know exactly what you're going through. I'm an emetophobe and also struggling badly with it at the moment. I just can't seem to get it out of my head. I hate the winter!

I've started CBT which I hope is going to help. I'll let you know of my progress, if you like :)

Take care x

I've got a session tomorrow, so I'll report back afterwards :) I'm really hoping this will help, because I'm going through a rough time with emet at the moment. I've been prescribed anti-depressants, which I won't take because one of the side effects is nausea/vomiting. I know not everyone gets the side effects but it still scares me immensely. Even though I'm crying every day and afraid to go out, I still can't take them :(

Hi Northerngirl! The session went extremely well! Went in feeling scared and miserable - came out and the world seemed like a nicer place again! Even though we haven't done much work on the emetophobia as yet, CBT has already been some help and definitely helps to have a much more positive attitude to things. I've been told to look at some exposure photos on a website to try and desensitise myself to "you-know-what" so I've been working through that slowly. I can give you the link to the site if you like?

Ever since my session on Saturday I have felt more positive. Yesterday I was able to go out shopping in town (haven't been for months) and even went for a meal with my parents and boyfriend!! That was a big step for me.

Though I have only had two sessions so far, I would recommend CBT, especially if you have self-esteem or social anxiety problems too.

Hope you're doing ok, Northerngirl x

Oh good!! Sarah I'm sooooo glad that everything went well and your feeling good!! I would love the information to the site, thank you for offering !!! Yes I did CBT for my anxiety a year or so ago and it works wonders. I've been thinking about hypnosis for emetophobia, but we will see. I look forward to hearing from you again!!!
Take care

Dear Sarah :)

That's wonderful news that the CBT is helping you. I'm glad you've found a therapist who works for you.

Congratulations on your trip out shopping and for your dinner with your parents and boyfriend. That's excellent news. You can do it again!

Wishing you all the best

Another triumph over this phobia - today I went to the hospital with my mum. Sat in the outpatients department for 45 minutes. I hate hospitals for obvious reasons, but I was assured that the outpatients department would be okay, and my mum really wanted someone to go with her. Then we went into town and I helped her spend money :D Had a little downer when my sister said she felt ill, but I'm trying not to let it spoil things.

Northerngirl, this is the link to the exposure site. The pictures start off simple and not too scary, and gradually become more graphic. Hope you find it useful!

Hey Northerngirl,
I have emetaphobia. I hate it and i have been having a tough time getting over it. I was sick yesterday and i flipped out. It was I hope you are not as bad as me. All I think about is getting sick. Every single second of the day. I am getting hypnotized soon so hopefully that will work.

Feel better<3

i have it also- was a time when i thought it was just me, but obviously not!! you dont need to tell me how utterly crap it is- its the worst. i go on chat a lot and even tho not spoken to someone who sufers, they are all LOVELY and i found a lot of them experience same kind of feelings even tho not emetophobic- it really helps and they dont think i am weird!
