Hi!
I'm a fiancee of one very special man, and he is the one that has social anxiety. Beside it, he also suffers from schizoaffective disorder but good combination of medication helps him cope just fine. He had a big strugle when I met him, coz then he still didn't find right med, he was even suicidal but fortunatly never tryed to do it. Within years he got much better, I was by his side every step of the way and celebrating them as they were mine. With getting back to "normal" life he faced new problems such as Social phobia....He is doing therapy, which helps a lot and i'm trying to do my best in being the support he needs, coz nothing less he deserves. Now he is doing better in social phobia as well but still has a lot to go. Things that i proudly say is that he got back to his university studies - studying to be a psychologist, and he is VERY good at it (i guess person "who've been there" is always the one who understands better and helps better, noticing the smallest details in people). He is facing nowadays many chalenges, seeing friends more, doing stuff on his own and getting more and more independent. I am trying to do my best in staying away and let him do the things so he wouldn't be too dependent, of course in extreme situations he knows he can always count on me by being by his side and making him see that fear is more of something imaginery then real, since everytime we come to the end of the day he admits that things he feared at the begining were not so scary after all. Of course i'm awair that one day of reasuring won't make a big difference and chase a fear away forever, but at least i know we are on a good way :)
He even has two friends who have similar problems and with my years of learning everything i could find about social phobia made me see that there are many people as my special guy :)
So i hope that with this post i will at least a bit bring some positivity into someone's life and i want to add that hope is the one that always die last and beliving in yourself you can do miracles.
It doesn't matter if you are lonley, scared or losing hope faster then gaining positive thoughts, there is always space for miracles, i'm telling it because i've seen it and i'm seeing it each day i spend by my fiancee's side.
The only way he is different from all other people is what makes him so special to me - makes him my soulmate, it's his love, his good heart...nobody could resist that :)
Everyday he is getting more better, and so can you.....many people got better and all you have to do is try your best and never give up - it all pays back in the end.
Sorry if it's too long but i hope it will help at least a bit...
Take care,
Ivana
